Leavenworth County

On August 21, 2008, first
grade teachers at Eisenhower Elementary held a “Barnyard Kickoff” as an
introduction to their year-long theme of farming.
There were 13 learning
stations, everything from butter churning to roping. Leavenworth County
Farm Bureau coordinated the following stations: farm animals,
fresh-squeezed lemonade, roping, planting and “Farming is More than Food”.

Reno County

Derek Zongker and
County Coordinator Carol Miller taught
Obee
Grade School students about the Amazing Soybean. Derek and Carol talked about
raising soybeans and the many different ways they are used.

Nemaha County

Ninety contestants participated in the 2008 Pedal Power Tractor Pull held in
conjunction with the Nemaha Co. 4-H Fair and Seneca Car Show. Each child
received a pedal pull t-shirt compliments of the county Farm Bureau and a can of
Dr. Pepper donated by Seneca Wholesale. The top three pullers from the four
classes were awarded a medal & toy tractor. Picture shows: Shayla Heiman,

At the Douglas County Annual Meeting, table decorations were old cowboy boots
filled with silk flowers which were given away as door prizes along with bushel
size mums. The program was Trudy Rice telling of their California trip as
District Two's Farm Family of the Year last year.

Franklin County

The Franklin County Legislative Tour was
held Thursday, September 25 at Judd Ranch near Pomona. Judd Ranch consists
of Gelbvieh and Red Angus cattle with a premier transfer program.
There were about 60 attending, including one state senator, two state
representatives as well as many local county commissioners, the Ottawa
mayor, and many candidates.

Sedgwick County


Sedgwick County Farm Bureau "Ag Magic Day"
today at the Extension Education Center, Wichita. Five Hundred and twelve
4th Graders from seven schools in the area attended.
Stations included: Dairy Calf, Pigs, Sheep,
Farrier, Farm Machinery, Cheeseburger, Farm Safety, Grains, Beef
By-Products, Slice of Soil, a farm video and Rex Getz with his magic
program.

Finney County
 
Three 4th grade
classes from Alta Brown Elementary School in Finney County took a tour of the
farm of County Board President Russell Komlofske this morning (Wed. October 1st).
The 70 students and 6 adults were at the farm for about 3 hours and learned
about wheat, corn and soybeans, looked at farm equipment and learned the
difference between dryland and irrigated farming. Other Finney County board
members that help with the tour were Jay Warren, and Carol and Mike Deaver.

Miami County

Miami County Farm Bureau
received the “Friend of Extension” Business Award from the Miami County
Extension Council on Monday November 3, 2008.
Fred & Jennie Miller
received the “Friend of Extension” individual award the same night. Fred is
a member of the Miami County board of directors.

Harper County

Wanda Harnden, Harper County
Coordinator, and the Board members delivered the Harper
County Farm Bureau traveling Book Barn to Anthony Elementary School.

Johnson County

Thanks to the grant received
from KFB, Johnson County Farm Bureau once again partnered with the Spring Hill
FFA Chapter for their annual Pumpkin Painting and Ag Activities event. The FFA
students helped kids ages 3-5 paint pumpkins, hit a piñata, play games and pet
some small farm animals. Johnson County Farm Bureau read the Milk Comes from a
Cow book and showed the kids how to make butter from heavy whipping cream. The
children then ate the butter they made with pretzels.

Barton County

Barton County presented a program
called “Circles of Earth Bracelets” to all the 3rd graders in Great
Bend. The lessons objective was to help the students keep our planet healthy by
saving the land, water, air and animals. The outcome was that everything is
related to everything else. Each student made a beaded bracelet. Each bead
represented a different object from the earth. We also served M&M’s for water(
blue raspberry Kool-Aid) for snack.

Barton County

Barton County
Farm Bureau Association provided and served 200 hotdogs, buns, ketchup, and
mustard at the Alternative Fuel Vehicle Day October 3, 2008.
