Farm Bureau Mutual Insurance Company has finalized its acquisition of Crop1 Insurance Direct, Inc., a Des Moines-based crop insurance provider.  Crop1 Insurance has been a leader in the crop insurance industry with the introduction of the Premium Discount Plan.  

Since 2003, Crop1 has helped farmers save more than $4 million in crop insurance premium without reducing their overall coverage.  In fact, Crop1 has historically saved their customers up to 8.6 percent on crop insurance each of the past three years.  Many of their policyholders have used the savings to increase their crop insurance coverage. 

The acquisition will allow Farm Bureau agents to sell Crop1 insurance products in Kansas, creating another innovative risk management tool available.

Crop1 is a full service administrator of federal crop insurance on behalf of Occidental Fire & Casualty Insurance of North Carolina ("Occidental"). Occidental is owned by IAT Re who has an AM Best rating of A-. Occidental insures all eligible crops authorized by the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation.

The policies issued are reinsured by the Federal Crop Insurance Corporation as well as four private reinsurance companies. Our lead reinsurer, has an A+ (Superior) rating from AM Best. AM Best is a widely accepted rating firm in the insurance industry.
