Attention Water Users in
Rattlesnake Creek Basin…
Next meeting...February 21,
2008 at the Division of
Water Resources Stafford
Field Office, 300 S. Main
Street, Stafford, Kansas
starting at 1 p.m.
Efforts are underway to
re-energize the Rattlesnake
Creek Partnership group in
early 2008 to help update
and refine a hydrologic
model for demonstration of
various scenarios in
managing the water resources
of the basin.
This “partnership”
originally consisted of
members from Department of
Interiors U.S. Fish and
Wildlife Service (USFWS);
Kansas Department of
Agricultures Division of
Water Resources (KDA/DWR);
Big Bend GMD #5 (GMD 5) and
Water Protection Association
of Central Kansas (Water
PACK).
The partnership formed in
1993 to help address water
level/supply concerns
particularly as relating to
satisfying water rights held
by USFWS at Quivira National
Wildlife Refuge. Their
efforts culminated in a
cooperative Management Plan
approved by the Chief
Engineer in July of 2000
which has a 12-year
implementation schedule.
This plan is to be reviewed
every 4 years for evaluation
and adjustments. This is
the 8 year review to
determine the effectiveness
of the management plan.
As this process unfolds, KFB
will continue to monitor its
progress and participate in
several of the technical
advisory committee
meetings. If you as an
individual wish to
participate, please contact
