Farm Bureau, other groups ask farmers to comment on
reinstatement of Roundup Ready Alfalfa
AFACT
Farm Bureau and several other organizations are
asking for help to allow the planting of Roundup
Ready Alfalfa.
Since 2007, there has been a court ordered
injunction prohibiting the planting of the crop. The
ruling to ban the production of Roundup Ready
Alfalfa was not based on concerns about its
environmental safety, but a lack of proper
documentation in the initial environmental
assessment.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture has opened a
public comment period allowing farmers and producers
to express their thoughts on the value and benefit
of this technology.
To
respond, it is best to provide your personal
experiences on your farm with the use of
biotechnology like modified corn, cotton, soybeans,
sugar beets, etc. The Roundup Ready Alfalfa site has
a downloadable “Tool Kit” at (http://support.roundupreadyalfalfa.com/Tool%20Kit%20Messages.doc)
Or you may get help creating your letter at:
http://www.roundupreadyalfalfa.com/
You may comment online using the USDA site
here.
Comments
must be received on or before the newly extended
deadline of March 1, 2010.
