Promotion and Ag Education Committee

Committee Mission:
The KFB P&E Committee’s mission is to identify, research and prioritize issues that have a direct association to member relations, membership marketing, consumer education, promotion of agriculture and agriculture education for students and producers.

The KFB P&E Committee will:

  •       Facilitate consumer education programs to Kansans emphasizing the importance of agriculture to the economy and the environment;

  •       Promote the benefits and services offered by Kansas Farm Bureau to existing members and potential members, with focus on producers;

  •       Communicate to and inform individuals and organizations that influence perceptions of agriculture;

  •       Lead and partner in areas of consumer relations, promotion and education;

  •       Promote partnerships between county Farm Bureaus and KFB Districts to further the cause of the organization;

  •       Promote agriculture education programming for producers; and,

  •       Promote agriculture education programming focused on K-12 classrooms.

Committee Vision:
The vision of the KFB P&E Committee is to promote awareness and enhance the understanding of agriculture’s important contributions to today’s society while strengthening the image of KFB and Kansas’ agricultural industry.

Doug Zillinger (Chair) - Phillips County
Serving since 2010

Doug and his wife, Jana, are lifelong farmer-ranchers from western Kansas. He is currently Vice Chairman of the Kansas Farm Bureau Promotion and Education Committee and will serve as committee chair in 2012. He has served as his county board secretary and 3 years as county Farm Bureau president. They produce wheat, grain sorghum, and soybeans for cash crops. A cow-calf operation with stockers in the summer round out the products produced. The greatest product of the couple is their three daughters and their commitment to production agriculture and agriculture education of the general public. Doug has recently retired from a career as an agriculture educator where he worked with youth through the FFA program to partner with Farm Bureau on presentations ranging from safety to awareness of agricultural issues such as animal welfare.

Sharon Hiss - Barton County
Serving since 2012

Sharon grew up on a farm, an now helps her husband Rick with his family farm operation.

She has served on the Count Board as Women’s Chairperson and also as President for 2 years. They produce wheat, corn, soybeans, grain sorghum, oats and alfalfa. They also have a small beef cattle operation.
