Statement by Rich Felts, President, Kansas Farm Bureau, Regarding Senate Voluntary GMO Labeling Vote

MANHATTAN – “First, we want to thank Sen. Pat Roberts for his stalwart effort to secure a law that supports consumers, farmers and ranchers and our nation’s system of affordable, productive agriculture.  It is disappointing to say the least that enough Senators cannot see the need to vote on a federal GMO labeling bill that preempts a damaging patchwork of state measures.

We will continue to work closely with Sen. Roberts, Kansas Rep. Mike Pompeo, who led the fight for the measure in the House, and other common-sense lawmakers who will not ignore sound science, stigmatize the nation’s food system into confusion and disorder, and prevent the public’s understanding of the safety and benefits of biotechnology all while increasing the amount of information that is available to consumers.”
