Statement by Rich Felts, President, Kansas Farm Bureau, Regarding Chairman Roberts’ Biotech Labeling Proposal
Manhattan, Ks., February 19, 2016 – “We are pleased Sen. Pat Roberts has introduced a bill to secure uniform, voluntary biotech labeling standards across the country.
“We urge the Senate to act immediately on this legislation. It will shield consumers from the increased food prices that a misleading patchwork of state-by-state labeling rules can impose. It will also protect both farmers and the food industry from a free-for-all of requirements that would vilify a valuable agricultural technology and have a chilling effect on future innovation.
“We look forward to working with Chairman Roberts and the Congress to implement a solution that provides helpful and scientifically accurate information about the food we grow and enables farmers to meet the demand and desire for affordable food choices.”
