In June, Leadership KFB met in Kansas City to spend time learning and thinking about consumers and how they relate to farming.

Stops included time at Dairy Farmers of America headquarters, Cultivate KC, Fulcrum Global Capital, American Royal, KC Wine Co and City Market. The class heard from experts on consumer conversations, food is medicine, venture capital work in agriculture and agritourism.

“The goal of this capsule is to open their eyes to types of agriculture they may not think about,” Myndi Krafft, staff lead, says. “We talked about agritourism, food is medicine and the importance of sharing their stories with consumers.”

One participant shared the experience helped them think more broadly about food and farming.

“It made me start thinking outside the box for our operation, especially for our next generation. It also allowed me to sit and process how all of this will play a part in our smaller rural communities.”

The group’s next capsule will take place in western Kansas in August.
